The Homestead
My 75-miles-per-hour glimpse of this place gave me the impression that it was an abandoned church.
I drove three or four more miles before there was a place to turn around, so I could go back and check it out.
It was a farmhouse, with a garage/shop around back – some broken dreams. To be honest, I’m not quite sure why I thought it was a church. But either way, it was worth the few additional miles that day.

Yes, well worth the extra miles.

Thanks, Robert. Those U-turns are almost always worth it, even if they add a few miles.

The few regrets are those when I have not turned around.

I can still remember a pink building reflected in a big puddle…and how I didn’t stop.

For me there was a little girl dressed in her Sunday best standing at the curb under the shade of an oak tree on a sunny day wearing (this was the 80s) “deely boppers”. Cutest thing, but I did NOT want to be tagged as a perv.

That was a good call…even though it would have been a great shot!

Nice picture. Those metal support posts holding the little roof are a great detail that pulled me right into the photo.

That little roof (but not the supports) was what I first saw from the highway.
