St. Benedict
This is the back of St. Benedict’s Church, in downtown Lubbock. St. Benedict’s mission is to serve the homeless, the working poor, and the food insecure in our town.
To be honest, I am not sure what the front of the place looks like, but with that reflection in the puddle, the well-used doors, and the brick paving, it seemed like nothing in front would be any better.

That reflection was (for me) the whole point of making the shot!

Good call – the water (reflection) makes this all work very nicely.

Thanks, Robert! I was pretty happy to spot the reflection.

I agree with robert. Which brings to mind the possibility of adding a 5 or 10 gallon jug of water to your photo kit to create puddles as needed.

So, what makes you think I don’t already do that?!

Well, I have seen your bag, with those large round boulders in it for foreground interest and just figured there wasn’t room. But in Texas, maybe you drive to most locations and can just fill the trunk with water. I don’t know how else you could manage.

Don’t forget that I recently switched to inflatable boulders, which leaves room for the water. It was a good decision.

Oh yeah! I suppose you could try inflatable water. Or maybe just carry a roll of shiny mylar and fake it all the way.

I am not familiar with “inflatable water.
” Is that something specific to Canada?

You don’t have it in Texas, even with all that flooding? Must be why it is normally so dry down there. It comes in a bottle marked “Canada Dry”, which is a serious misnomer, since it is wet.

Oh, THAT’S what Canada Dry is! I never knew that until now…

Thanks, Sabina. By the way, I am headed to Portland tomorrow, and look forward to checking out the things you mentioned. I’ll let you know what I see.

Wonderful! Hopefully you’ll be taking photos so I can see my city through your eyes (and lens).

Great picture, but I would not discount the front. There is a fantastic clock out front and with the Metro tower behind it, that makes a worthwhile photo too.

Well, Agent X, you certainly know downtown Lubbock! That clock out front is excellent, in a how-did-THAT-get-here sort of way. Thanks for the reminder that I need to photograph it the next time I am downtown.
