Ethanol, first
This is how it is: after 7.5 years of driving past the ethanol plant and never stopping, I went twice in three days.
I’ve been watching these dunes beside the plant for a few weeks now, and have been intrigued by the color variations in them so the other Sunday, the Patient Spouse* and I took a little drive. (Like Old People, really, on a Sunday afternoon drive to see stuff. Only we went the speed limit.)
Anyway, to get to the point, those dunes are made from millet, a grain that’s used ethanol production. (Here’s something boring to read.) (Here’s something entertaining to read.)

*The other day, I referred to the Patient Spouse as my traveling companion (Yes! Not even capitalized!). He said it made him sound like a dog.

Interesting that the grass is greener under the steel frame. Anyway, make all that ground abstract and you’d have a Magritte painting.

I can’t figure out why that grass would be greener. It’s a mystery!
It would look more like a Magritte if I had some floating Magrittes!

My only theory is that that frame held a couple of signs and they provided some relief from the sun. In which case the signs would’ve had to have been there relatively recently.

Too bad I waited 7.5 years to drive less than a quarter of a mile off the highway to go look at the place. Oh, wait – hang on a minute and let me check Google street view… Well, it turns out the empty sign was there in January 2013 when the Google car went by. (Also the maize dunes weren’t there.) (Here it is.)

I yield to the mystery. Although I notice that even at the time of the Google camera car the ground under the frame looks different from the surrounding ground. But I’m sure I’ll sleep just fine tonight, unless this reply is not properly placed in the hierarchy of this thread. I won’t know until I hit Post Comment but it looks to me like I’m replying to Yvonne’s comment.
