black/white
A year ago this week, I took a class at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. Without going into detail, I’ll just say that I hated it. Two days in, I wanted to come home, but my Patient Spouse and a photographer friend of mine talked me off that particular cliff. I still hated the class, though.
The last night, I hardly slept at all. About 2 or 3 in the morning, I looked over and saw one shirt hanging up in my closet; I made a photo with my iPhone since I didn’t have anything else really going on.
Today, I found out that image was accepted into a show at the A Smith Gallery in Johnson City, Texas. The show, black/white, will be up from August 4 – September 10, with a reception on August 26. Elizabeth Avedon was the juror.
So, it just goes to show, doesn’t it, that terrible weeks can sometimes bring good results.

Kind of like the days of waiting for the roll of film to come back from the processor. You never know what the results will be! Congrats

Thanks! For some reason, when I shoot with my phone, I made more adventuresome modifications to the images. And then, every now and then, it works out!

Love the image. Congratulations. I’d be interested to hear what you hated about the class. Was it the teacher? (Don’t need to know the name) or was it something else?

The teacher and I didn’t click, which was part of the problem. It was a master class, and I was clearly under qualified to be there (I was literally the only one in the class who didn’t make a living via photography!), so it was a real struggle to keep up.
(I maintain that I got in because of a clerical error.)

Was this the class where they told you never to take photos in a cemetery? 😀

As much as I disliked that class, I did get a few strong images from it. Now that I think about it, two shots from that week have been accepted into shows. So why, exactly, am I complaining about the class??!
