Stock Tank and the Cathedral Mountains
I’m not tall enough to get the shot I wanted, so I made this one by holding the camera as high above my head as I could reach and shooting it blind.
Just over to my left, a very large steer stood in the shade, watching the procedures. And off in the distance, the Cathedral Mountains.
It’s hard to think of anyplace I rather be than right here.

Nice shot. Bet the very large steer was thinking how crazy that human had to be.

I know! After all, he was in the shade, while I was in full sun, on my tiptoes only inches away from a barbed-wire fence, holding a camera in the air. That’s a whole pile of crazy!

Nicely improvised. I saw a guy shooting from the roof of his Range Rover once. Maybe a small stepladder in the car is an option for you.
Don’t recall seeing sepia from you before.

Someone over on Facebook said the same thing. And I almost DID put one in the car for this trip. Just think of the vantage point of a stepladder+tiptoes+holding the camera way up in the air! It would look like a drone photo!!
I don’t do sepia very often (especially since I shoot almost exclusively with a Monochrom these days). But this just felt…well…sepia.

I also know a guy who keeps a plastic drop sheet in his 4WD so he can lie on the ground to take photos without getting dirty.

I have a ground cloth in the back of my car. I guess I could have stood on that; the extra 1/32nd of an inch would have made all the difference in that shot! (Now I have to go back…)

Sometimes when people say, “This is a great photo – you must have a REALLY GOOD CAMERA!” I think they’re crazy. This time, though, it really WAS all camera and no photographer.
