High and Dry Show
I was happy to learn that my photo “Mundane” was accepted into the 14th annual High and Dry Show at Texas Tech University. The show goes up next week, and the opening reception will be held on December 5th at the International Cultural Center on the Texas Tech campus.
near Abiquiu, New Mexico
The show is hosted by the International Center for Arid and Semiarid Lands Studies (ICASALS), which was founded in 1966 to foster research and education on improving the quality of life in arid and semiarid regions of the world. Most of the projects undertaken by ICASALS involve water supply and conservation, ground water management, irrigation, farming, urban and rural development, and the use of alternative energy sources.
Show sponsors include the CH Foundation and Tech’s Office of International Affairs. (My pal Brett Erickson is in the show, too.)

My congrats too. That is a very dramatic picture of a place with a dramatic name. (Shades of Georgia O’ K. … but she was hardly ever that tragic.) Great image indeed.

Thanks, Vera! This was taken very near the place that Georgia O’Keeffe called The White Place, which she painted many times.

In the past, they’ve announced the winners and honorable mentions prior to the show. This year, the juror is making that determination after the show’s up so we won’t know until the 5th. I’m going to go ahead and call it in advance: Brett Erickson’s photo (http://brettlerickson.wordpress.com/2014/02/10/mesa-arch-moonrise-canyonlands-national-park/) will win the top spot.

Well that is one hell of a photo and it would be fine to place after that shot. But your photo is excellent too, and thought provoking in a quite different way.
