Fingers

Lightning bolts, from the storm that was headed our way.

…and then, the weather moved in

Sometimes, plans just don’t work out.

We thought it seemed like a good night to stay at our land out in the country. There’s no house, but there is a big covered gazebo. We took cots and bedding and snacks and booze and were ready for a nice time. We hadn’t been out there long when the weather took a turn.

By bedtime, we’d returned home…

East Beach Café (for Andy)

I’ve written about this before, about the friends I’ve made through my blog. When I started I didn’t have the faintest idea that was even a possibility, but several years in, I can count many of you as friends.

When I knew I was going to be in England, I contacted Andy Hooker, one of the photographers I’ve gotten to know through our blogs, and asked him for some recommendations of out-of-the-way places I’d be likely to miss. He remembered that I’d been very interested in some posts he’d made about the East Beach Café, in Littlehampton; he has a good memory, as those photos are from 2014! (Here’s what the place looks like, through his lens.) Thanks to his reminder, I was able to plan a stop at the café the first day we were in the country.

But even better than that was the chance to arrange a short visit with Andy and his lovely wife Charlotte. Their home was literally our first stop after we arrived, and it was so nice to be able to meet them.

And this is the kind of man Andy is: he’d written out the directions to the East Beach Café, and gave me a handful of change to pay the parking.

So, here’s to blogs, and photographers, and travel.

And this is the last of my photos from England and France; tomorrow it’ll be back to Texas.

Dividing line, part 2

It’s not in the same country as this shot, but I think the two images are cousins, maybe?

English Spoken

To be clear, even though English was spoken I did not eat at the Subway sandwich shop while I was in Paris. Also, I did not go to the Chicken Spot there on the other side of the street.
