White on white, 8

If you look closely, you may recognize the statue from this post. Obviously the columns are made from a more permanent stone than that dissolving angel.

“Howdy!” to you, too.

The sign for this place. I think that fella’s cute, and wouldn’t mind having his happy face in my yard.

Except that his happy face is gigantic. And we’ve got a sign ordinance that I am pretty sure prohibits gigantic signs in residential areas. Although, I guess I could decide it’s a work of art, rather than a sign…..

Deserts and…color?

Since August 2012, I have posted almost nothing but black and white images here at One Day | One Image. It wasn’t any sort of planned thing, but that’s just what felt right.

But there’s just something about Santa Rosa that makes me think color is the way to go.

First, there was this – with color.

Then, we had this – with color.

And, now this one. But, to be honest, how could I not post this in color? I’d lose those fantastic lavender columns….

A building? No, a work of art.

The Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Chicago’s Millennium Park is designed by famed architect Frank Gehry. I really don’t care for Gehry’s work – to me it tends to look like wadded up aluminum foil. But, he’s famous and I’m not, so there you go.

I do like this, the structure to hold up sound and lighting equipment. It spans a grassy lawn, where concert-goers can listen to some music. (Monday, June 17, 2013: Daniel Lanois)

(Also: the Pavilion’s bandshell was too tall for the building height restrictions, so the City of Chicago classified it as a “work of art” rather than as a “building.” That seems about right, I guess.)

My (current) favorite town

Here’s another shot of this building.

It’s also the same place where I found some rectangles, a slightly disturbing sign, #4 in the White on White series, and a steam laundry.

Colorado City: my favorite town.
