Defeat’s Façade

A lot of small, rural schools out here end up consolidating with nearby districts just to have enough students to make it worth the effort. That means the rural roads of the high plains are dotted with the left-behind buildings. It feels like defeat.

Porch Piano

I took piano lessons when I was a kid. I hated it, and have almost nothing but bad memories of the ordeal. Recitals gave me great anxiety, but the weekly music theory classes were even worse. And practicing? Uh, no. (Read this, if you want to know more.)

So I can completely understand banishing the piano to the front porch, to eternal punishment.
