Thrift store and a cowboy poet

If you can figure out how to get there – with the Do Not Enter and the One Way and the No Left Turn – you might be able to find some bargains at the thrift store.

But, if that’s not your deal (or even if it is), I’d like to encourage you to visit my friend Paul Zarzkski’s place; scroll nearly to the end, until you find the poem called “Montana Second Hand,” a lovely poem that takes place at a St Vincent de Paul store.

Still have some time on your hands? Here’s Paul, reciting “Black upon Tan” at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering.

It’s a long way from Ann Arbor to cowboy poets; thanks for indulging my journey.

  1. It would be worth jay walking against the light to get in and here that guy hit the key of C, for a few minutes. That is a very nice poem.

I have never had a fun experience like that in the SVDP that is around the corner from my work. Mostly the volunteers in there verge on surly. But I go anyway, in the hopes of a deal. It too is on a one-way street, I wonder if that is meaningful.

  2. This was my first exposure to Paul Zarzysky and I thoroughly enjoyed his work. He is certainly a gifted artist but made me think that there is a lot more art in the world than I will ever know. Also, the line from the “top 15 Indicators That You Have Recently Returned Home From THE 2007 ELKO COWBOY POETRY GATHERING:”:

#3. Re-entry into normal life hasn’t been this difficult since your alien abduction.
    made me laugh out loud.

  3. Loved the poetry and loved the picture.
