The day breaks gently
Our side of the island faced west, which meant that the dramatic evenings were offset by gentle mornings, with a flat ocean and clouds that were in a hurry to be somewhere else before full daylight.

This is very beautiful, Melinda. Very painterly!

Dang, pal. First you start making people shots, now natural abstracts? *Sob* “I feel like we just don’t know each other anymore!”
Cool shot, reminiscent of someone else I know, Eddie Soloway. His “Edge of Light” series worked with the blue hour exclusively: http://www.eddiesoloway.com/see/galleries/the-edge-of-light/?pid=41

I know! What HAPPENED to me? I either lost my way, or found it. (I can’t tell yet.) It’s possible that you started it, though, with your Equivalent series.
Thanks for the link to Eddie Soloway’s work. What great images!

Welcome to the lost crowd. Predictable is boring, right? And actually, Eddie was the one who encouraged me to experiment all the time; if he wasn’t such a darn nice guy, I would’ve been mad at him at the time. BUT he was right, as usual. 🙂

Yes, it is boring.
Sometimes I think all this floundering about is because I am growing as an artist. But other times, when I am being a little more honest with myself, I realize that it’s just as likely that I have a short attention span…

That’s stunning. I love how you’ve composed this shot.

Thanks, Edith. I was on vacation and sort of wanted to sleep late. But I woke up early. And I knew I HAD to grab my camera and tripod: there were pictures to be made! It was a great way to start the day.

Thanks, Andy. It’s sort of change from what I usually shoot, but I just couldn’t resist.

I agree with all the others, this is a fantastic shot. You could spend a year or two shooting these and I would not be bored for a minute. It is a bit galling though since I have tried to do things like this and they have never worked out, and you just take a short break from black and white and crumbling rectangles and throw this at us. My eyes turned a few shades of green looking at this shot.

Don’t be too jealous – I took a lot of long-exposure shots (daybreak and night) and most of them were awful.
This IS a departure for me, though, and I hope none of my followers were too startled by it!

Nicely done, once again. It looks like stepping away somewhere different might have helped your creative juices a bit!!
Was this a longer exposure image?? Those clouds seem to have a lot of movement in them. 🙂

Thanks, Derrick. This was about a 30 second exposure. This particular morning I woke up pretty early and the sky just seemed to be calling; I am happy that I listened (sometimes I don’t.).
