Vocabulary day

Water drops clinging to the flower emphasized the intense colors.

It had started raining before dinner the night before, a heavy tropical rain that fell straight down. Later, back in our bure, we opened the shutters and fell asleep to the sound of rain.

By morning, the heavy rain had gone. Instead we had the very light, almost imperceptible kind of rain that I once, in Mexico, heard referred to as “chipichipi.” And, as the sun rose over the volcanoes, there was a rainbow hanging over the clear Pacific water.

See how easy it is: just by reading today’s blog, you added two words to your vocabulary! And this concludes the Useful Foreign Words edition of One Day | One Image.

  1. Thanks for sharing the beautiful image, Melinda, and the vocabulary words. It’s been a while since I’ve experienced chipichipi…sounds nice.

  2. Chipichipi is a very useful word around here – we often have that kind of “rain”, more like mist. But colder than in Mexico.

I like your treatment on this flower with the black hole in the middle. It adds mystery to the photo. Great colours too!

    • I love the word “chipichipi” – it’s fun to say and is perfectly descriptive of a particular sort of precipitation.

Color? On One Day | One Image? What in the world is going on?! And you know what else? This photo is….cropped.

  3. I had to look twice (no, three times) to see if I was in the right place. You rocked my world with this image! Also, I can’t wait to use the word “chipichipi” in conversation. With our weather, I’ll get a lot of use out of it.

  4. Colour? Is this really you Melinda? Or is this Bizarro Melinda?

Regardless, great image and thanks for broadening my vocabulary.
