Beach stairs
Another shot at the pebble beach near Ehpem’s house.
It really did remind me of West Texas. Ha! Ha! Of course not! It was the opposite of West Texas.

Nice treatment Melinda. Looks almost like you tonemapped a single image in HDR software.
There is more geographical relief in this photo than in any 100 of your shots from west TX. Not to mention living vegetation. Sure is different:)

Thanks, Ehpem! No tone mapping – I used NIK Silver Efex, which I am liking more and more. There is more geographical relief in this shot than in ALL my West Texas shots added together. And that vegatation? We try to grow those as house plants around here, usually with not-very-good results.

I have never tried any of the NIK products. Tonemapping can get a similar effect to this. I am posting one of that light well on Wharf Street tomorrow that I processed that way.

I use NIK Silver Efex on every shot. I’ve had it for a while, but it’s like all the other stuff – it does a ton of things and takes a while to learn it. We worked with it in class in Santa Fe, and it’s made a difference (at least to me!) in the way my photos look. I’ve learned how to pull a lot of detail out of the darkish-to-mid-tones in an image, and have learned how to do some interesting things with clouds.
