Innovative composition. I never would have thought of using the gravel lot as a sort of negative space or inverse substitute for the sky.

Thanks, Steven. The empty lot was so sad, because it used to be full every day, and I was trying to emphasize that emptiness. (Larry’s BBQ closed when a chain BBQ restaurant opened up nearby. )

Indeed sad. It reminds me of a local BBQ restaurant that by all accounts was really good. Passed by it over the weekend to see a “For Rent” sign on the building.

This has become a universal story – big chains offering better prices for cheap goods at the expense of the locally owned and superior quality. In solidarity with local businesses (and because the big places leave me feeling exhausted and used up) I scrupulously avoid the big chains, unless I cannot find what I want at the local places. Sadly my efforts aren’t enough to stop this kind of story spreading around here too.
Nice picture. I too love how you use the foregrounds expanses in many of your photos.

Even animals
are happy that this place closed–
so, think about it.
