She watched, suspiciously
I was walking along West Irving Park Road, toward the Red line station on North Sheffield, when this hot dog stand caught my eye. The woman taking her pre-lunch cigarette break next door eyed me, detached herself from the wall, and took one step toward the street to better see what I saw. She soon returned her attention to her cigarette.

Some folks just don’t get it. It’s almost like you can see things that aren’t there. It’s your super power.

All this time, I’d been wondering what my super power was. If you’re right (and of course you are!), it’s maybe a little ironic that I was unable to see it!

I feel like I’ve been channeling you the past two days. Maybe it was your super power reaching out!

Sorry about that. Now that I’ve been made aware of the super power, I will try to be more careful about impacting other photographers. I think the antidote is: take pictures of baskets of kittens.

I’m with Ken, Melinda! Their curiosity gets the better of them, and they are baffled – it happens to me all the time. Well seen!

I usually don’t notice people trying to figure out what I am seeing, but my husband (whose job is to stand patiently until I am done – and he’s very good at it) tells me it happens all the time. I don’t mind – it’s what sets you and me and Ken and all the rest of us apart from “normal” people!

Nice table legs. I like that style; simple, functional and curvy! Great for picnic tables anyway. That woman probably said something disparaging about dumb tourists and their cameras to her fellow workers when she went back indoors.

Oh, I am sure she had PLENTY to say about the dumb tourist. I am also sure it wasn’t the first time that sort of comment has been made behind my back!

Maybe she was simple, functional and curvy too?

I am not qualified to answer, but let’s just go with “probably.”
