But it still didn’t rain where I was
I was driving from Marfa, Texas, over toward Valentine. Off to the north, the storm was heavy over the mountains. I was in the outflow boundary (which sounds silly when the TV weatherman says it, but is actually a real thing) – the wind was very strong, there was a lot of dust, and I could smell the rain.
The storm fell apart before it got to where I was. But, until it did, it was spectacular.

I can imagine it must have been dramatic to watch. But when they look like that, I worry about hail stones.

Hail would have been a problem – nothing out there to park my car under!

Very nice – that one pole really grounds the picture.

Maybe it grounded the lightning, too.

This looks like a “take shelter” kind of storm. They make great photos. This makes me pine for a wide angle lens (again).

It’s pretty hard to get the effect of a West Texas landscape without a wide angle lens…
Like most of the storms around here, this one looked a lot worse than it really was.

I really like the gradation in the clouds on the right side of the photograph and the dramatic contrast between black sky and white clouds on the left side of the photograph. Great photo!

Thanks, Ashley. I was glad there was a place to pull off the road to take this one!
