White on white, 14
It is very bright inside the Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. Even the sky cooperated (it had snowed the night before) and was a hazy white. This terminal is relatively new, and I like the 1960s vibe from the light fixtures.

While you were away, daylight savings time ended. In just a few weeks, it’ll be nearly dark when I drive home from work, which always makes me think I’ve stayed at the office too long!

I like this, the 60’s globes would have been more globular and less interesting though. Or was that the 70’s?

Not always good. When we moved into our house the first thing that had to go (well almost the first, after a decade of grime) were the lights in globes that hung from metal stalks off the ceilings – longer stalks for taller ceilings. They were horrid, which might have something to do with them being the cheap ones. And from 1979, so maybe not mid-century either.

Our house was built in 1977 or 76. The sunken bathtub in the master bath had a huge mirror on the long wall adjacent to the tub. That was the first thing to go.
One wall in the living room had rough-sawn cedar planks, on a diagonal to match the slope of the roof. the wall design also included two strips of brown carpet, with a strip of brown smoky mirror between. That was the second thing to go.

Yes. And we bought the house anyway! If I ever run across a photo of the carpet-on-the-wall era, I will send it along.

Thanks, Andy. This particular airport terminal had a lot of interesting things going on with the lighting and design, and of course I was happy to pull out the camera and take a few dozen shots!
