Tower

Evidently the fine folks in Odessa like their signage to be big. There was this theater marquee from a couple of days ago, and now this fantastic structure, which marks the location of the Great Oil Basin Shopping Center.

This sign is three or four stories tall, and I suppose at some point in its past it actually SAID the name of the shopping center. In neon. In neon that blinked and flashed and all that other fancy stuff neon signs can do.

But now it’s mute. Oh, and red.

  1. Nice to see something in color from you. And well done too.

    • Thanks, Vera. I am glad you like this one – it hasn’t been very popular. Maybe the color scared away my regular followers,

      • I wonder why. Maybe some people don’t understand that an artist has access to versatility. Why cast yourself in cement ? but, nooo, I think many people are away at this time, busy with family and the holidays… re-post this at the end of January… then we’ll see …
Merry Christmas BTW and H.N.Y. …

  2. I think Melinda is cast in rectangular corrugated iron, but that might just be a false impression.

I have been away from your blog for a week or so, and other blogs too. Nice to catch up though. And I really like this photo, and the treatment. The blur at the bottom really works well. The sign is pretty much a rectangle free zone which is more striking a departure than the colour.
