There was some weather, #3
I took a little road trip the other day, and drove for many miles just behind this storm. Eventually I caught it, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as it looked from a distance.
The next day, there was a line of storms on the eastern horizon. They were there all day, and it never seemed like my location changed in relation to them. That made the day seem a lot longer than it actually was.

wow, print-worthy shot. I like the row of grasses just off the road…and the clouds.

Thanks, Luke. That row of grass was like a gift!

I agree with Luke. The clouds, power lines, road and what appears to be rain falling in the distance makes this a really dynamic image. This is pretty awesome!

Thanks, Marcus. One of my favorite things about the Plains is being able to see this kind of weather from a long way, and for a long time. (And, yes, it is rain in the distance.)

Thanks – I’ve been working all summer on shooting clouds, and every now and then it seems like maybe I’ve figured it out!

The line of grasses makes the shot. So do the power lines. And the sky. And the rain. And also, the line on the road. And pretty much everything else.
Difficult choice of logo placement in this shot I would think which is something I often think about for my photos – how to have it present but not overly distracting. I think this was the best choice.

Thanks, Ehpem. I know you weren’t too keen on this initially, and I appreciate your giving it another chance.
Those logos are hard, sometimes: it’s always a balance between getting there without ruining the photo.

Well, I did like the photo but I think without the strip of grass is would seem like a photo that had been done before. The strip of grass though makes all the difference, makes a new photo out of an older idea and I think that alone gives it a lot of merit. That, and that everything is so perfect for this concept, especially the light. Those are my uneducated thoughts, and I am sure you will reject them as you see fit 🙂

The clouds are superb with that bright edge and the deep thunderous appearance further out. I like the converging lines too, helped by the telegraph wires at the right side (which normally I hate).

Thanks, Andy. I’ve always liked this kind of weather, so it was a real treat to have this sort of view of such a big storm. I agree about the poles, which normally I would have tried to not include in the shot.
