Caught between

When I was in Victoria last month, on a photo-shooting frenzy with my friend Ehpem, we made many stops at the storm drain. It’s one of his favorite subjects, and has become one of mine too, when I’m in town. The constant changes in the water and sky, and the relatively unchanging drain make for some interesting opportunities to make photos.

Like this day, when the cloud and drain seemed to mirror each other, leaving photographers caught between the two.

Storm Drain + Clouds

042815

I’ve just returned from a visit to Victoria, BC, where I spent a few days with my blogging friend Ehpem. We’ve been friends for a few years now, after following each other’s blogs. If you follow his work, you know that this storm drain is one of his regular subjects.

While I was in town, we went to the storm drain a couple of times per day; this image was made on my last day in town.

You just never know where blogging will lead you!

X O

I liked the XO on top of Ehpem’s storm drain and sort of hope that the X is aligned with the cardinal directions. Perhaps Ehpem – who often serves as my Research Department – can enlighten me.

It all started here

The storm drain. It all started with a photo of a storm drain. Then some other things happened, and the storm-drain-photographer and I got to be friends.

Last weekend, that blogger, Ehpem, and I got to meet. Ehpem was kind enough to fetch me at the ferry landing; our first stop was the storm drain. It was good to see it in person. And to get to meet Ehpem, who spent the entire weekend driving me around town so I could see in person the things I’ve been seeing on his blog. And so I could make some photos of my own.

Who, really could have possibly predicted all of this from a blog?!
