  1. My goodness, do they use a cross as the posts for street name signs in Denver City? I think that would give me the creeps.
However, that cross is interesting, the angles of the cut ends imply a bit of a spiral, or vortex. Neat how such a simple design element can influence the way it is perceived.

    • That WOULD be creepy to have crosses for street signs! The cross here is the Methodist cross-and-flame, and I assume the church is located at that address on the sign; next time I go to Denver City I will try to remember to verify. I think maybe the angled ends of the cross are part of the standard design, but I am not sure what they would signify.

      • That is a bit of a relief!
I don’t think there is a Methodist church in Canada anymore, or if so, it is very small. Many decades ago they merged with the Presbyterians to form the United Church which is now one of the more progressive and liberal churches in Canada. I suppose I should add that up here we honour the word liberal for its true meaning and find nothing scary about ‘liberal’ at all, though some would say that of the Liberals (one of the main political parties).

      • Ooh! I really like it when people use “liberal” as something other than a pejorative. That almost never happens here in Texas!

  2. The cross draws the eye
    more than other designs
    like arms reaching out.
