Marathon gargoyles can’t be explained. Even the building agrees.
If you go to Marathon, and decide to take the only road out of town heading south, you’ll first cross the railroad tracks. Then another block or so down, on the left, you’ll see the Marathon Gargoyles. Or whatever these things are. (See the half-moon hanging in the sky between them?)
Check out this shadow! It doesn’t help understand what in the world is going on with this little building, but it IS amusing.
I guess the sign on the door sums it up best:
WTF, indeed.

Thanks. I’ve enjoyed looking at your work as well. In fact, your photos from Fort Phantom have probably inspired a weekend trip this spring….

very cool! Have you been down to Ft. McKavett or Griffin as well?? Ft. Richardson in Jacksboro is neat too. 🙂

No – and they are all easy drives from Lubbock, where I am. Usually when we go away for the weekend, we head to West Texas.

Yes, several times; I like it up there. A couple of my friends got married in the park a few years ago. In August. It was 112 degrees. We plan to take our granddaughter up there this spring for her first camping trip. Her first camping trip that’s not in the backyard, that it!

how wonderful!! the marriage and camping… not the heat. 😉 Make sure to check out the buffalo herd – they now roam freely through a good portion of the park.

This is so weird. I especially like the shadow in the middle picture – a good subject all on its own. Very strange texture on the walls too. The sign does say it all.

There wasn’t one thing about this building, other than the WTF sign, that made any kind of sense. Which made me like it all the more!
