Robots. Oh, and writing.
I thought this was the funniest store I’d ever seen. But I didn’t go in to see what their deal was.
It wasn’t until I was working on this post that I thought about trying to find out about it. Turns out, it’s way cool. Robot Supply & Repair supports 826Michigan, an organization that helps students learn how to be better writers. I’ll give you a minute to head over to their website to check it out.
Interesting, wasn’t it?
Anyway, now I wish I’d gone inside and bought a book or a hoodie or some coffee.

I’m disapointed. My robot needs repair and I thought I could take it here. But, then again, I could use a new hoodie, too

Sorry about your robot, and I hope you can find somewhere to get it fixed.
And, maybe they have rainproof hoodies.

I know – I sure regret not going in that shop while I was in Ann Arbor. Guess I may need to plan a return trip one of these days.

I’m struggling to grasp the connection between Robots and Writers (except they both begin with the ‘R’ sound). You have a knack of finding images that result in a lot of head scratching at this very strange world we all live in. There’s a book surely for all these images eventually, Melinda.

Andy – you are the second person this week to suggest that I do a book…
This place is part of a network of similar writing centers (all called 826+something) in the US, founded by the US author Dave Eggers. The first one, in San Francisco, needed a retail use to conform to zoning laws. According to Wikipedia, Eggers and his partners chose a pirate theme “to satisfy both the zoning laws and the founders’ sense of humor.” Anyway, the all the subsequent places have their own theme – superheroes, spies, space travel. I love the concept of a place that encourages children to write, and as I said in the post, wish I’d gone into the robot store to see what they were about.
(In doing researching a response to your comment, I noticed that there’s an 826 store in Los Angeles. I will be in LA next week, so maybe I can have time to stop in and make up for NOT going to the one in Michigan. Thanks for making a comment that required research, or I’d have never known about it!)

This IS a great idea. And a very interesting store front too. You seem to have some homing device implanted in your forehead, or back-brain, that draws you unbidden to such exotica.

Or…AM I “unbidden”….?
I am really keen on the concept of these places, and wish I’d had access to something like this when I was a kid.
