A certain rhythm
Last weekend, I met up with blogger and photographer Donna Catterick, and we spent the day photographing around Roswell, New Mexico.
My eye was caught by the sedate rhythm of the stairs and of those four windows, and the way that dangling window screen on the end broke up that rhythm in a very nice way. Way to go, window screen!

ahh, what memories !! I lived in Roswell and my husband of those years was in the Air Force at Davis Monthan Air Force Base. It was a Strategic Air Command base. Very interesting experience to live next to the tarmac where big bombers revved up their engines. When the base was closed so was Roswell… In the city I mostly remember thick sandstorms where fine sand penetrated inside the house and gritted under your teeth. The houses across the street could not be seen then. After living on base we moved to Albuquerque’s Sandia Base. Another but different experience …

oh, I forgot to say that I like your picture very much. The falling window screen kind of syncopates the composition.

Third reply: do you know what ? maybe Davis Monthan was in Tuscon AZ. I lived in 4 different air force bases in the Southwest that I get them confused… I cannot now remember the name of the Roswell base. Maybe I’ll google them, but it really does not matter now…

I saw references to the Roswell Army Air Field, but that was in conjunction with the famous UFO incident in 1947. Donna and I chose Roswell because it is approximately in the middle between us, and we really did enjoy it. There were lots of things to photograph, and we found some good places to east, too. But: by the end of the day it was very windy and the sand stung our skin when we went outside.

Thanks, Ken. It is one of current favorites, too, but I am pretty fickle so by the time I post this reply it’s possible that I will have changed my mind.

Wonderful image, the dangling screen just makes this image so interesting and of course provides a great composition.

Thank you, Mark. I was happy that the screen dangled there so photogenically!

It appears that I never Liked this or commented on this post. So that’s probably why it was still in my inbox this morning. I like this one a lot—a whole lot. The dangling screen is just right, and seems somehow to play off the iron railing.

I think that without the dangling screen, this would be a pretty boring shot. And I promise that the screen was ALREADY like that when I arrived!
