Wow! So dynamic.

Thanks, Donna. This was the most fun I had at the workshop – there were five of us who shot this storm and we were like little kids any time there was a lighting strike.

Thanks, Ken. I never knew how to shoot lightning until last week – and now I’m sort of hooked on it!

I’ve driven that road! Sometimes it feels I will always drive that road. Great emotional photo!

Mark – “Sometimes it feels I will always drive that road” is a very poetic sentence, and who make a good title for the image. I shot this during an emotionally difficult day at the workshop, so maybe some of that carried over into the shot.

It’s the depth of emotions that elevate photography into art! This is a great photo!

Oi yoi oi! Amazing. You got the car-lights streaks as well as the lightening! And the foliage in the foreground. And everything reading left to right. Great job.

Thanks, Linda. When we first heard cars coming, we were afraid they’d ruin our shots. We were wrong….

Thanks, John. Getting this shot (and several others the same night) made the workshop even better than it already was!

I’d always wanted to get some lightning shots; a couple of things stood in my way. First, a years-long drought where I lived meant that we didn’t have any storms. And, I didn’t know how to do it. But, I got plenty of practice on this particular night…and am looking forward to more storms!

Thanks, Ron. I actually like the color version better, but I shot this for a B&W class I was taking, so I thought I needed to show that I’d learned something….!

This is a terrific image. I expect it will show up in a competition or two! Love all the tones in the sky, and the light streak along the road. This one shot makes your workshop time worthwhile.

Thanks – standing on the edges of the storm shooting lightning was the best fun I had all week! My classmate Larry (Yes! Another Larry!) and were next to each other, cheering like little kids every time there was lightning. It was exhilarating.

My worry in lightning storms is all the metal in tripods. So far, I have only handheld, and never actually lucked out. Tripods being an essential part, as far as I can tell. We don’t get a lot of lightning here, so there are few chances. This is a great location as well as a great storm. Did you get wet?

Unless you can hold a camera steady for 30 seconds or so, a tripod’s the way to go.
We were behind the storm, so we didn’t get wet. We were at a relatively low spot, too, at the base of some hills and a mountain, Perdanal, which Georgia O’Keeffe painted many times (http://bit.ly/1lWZz11). We were hoping to get lightning strikes on the mountain, but that didn’t work out.

Cool link, and nice place to hang out, even in a lightning storm! I don’t think you needed photos of a strike on the mountain, not when you got one like this.

Thanks – I guess you don’t see much of those O’Keeffe-esque landscapes in BC, do you?

Nope. Not too many, in this part of BC anyway…
