I am fascinated by the juxtaposition of regular-life items and monumental scenes. So it was no surprise to me that a humble clothesline, set at the base of dramatic cliffs and under stormy skies, would have caught my eye….

The fault of he who asks no questions

I don’t think I have synesthesia.

But sometimes when I look at photos I’ve made, song lyrics burst into my mind. When I saw this, I heard “the fault of he who asks no questions,” a line from a song by Daniel Lanois. (If you look at the lyrics, you can see how big a leap this is! It’s a fine song, though, and you can listen to it here.)

The weather moved in

The idea was to get some spectacular shots of sunset on these limestone cliffs, the ones Georgia O’Keeffe called The White Place. The weather, however, had different ideas, and as this storm moved in, we decided it was time to move out.

But I kind of liked the stormy skies better than I would have like the sunset.
