On Sunday morning, March 1, the city was covered with spiky bits of frost that was whiter than the snow. It was otherworldly, really. So much that this looks like it could be branches of coral, waving in warm, tropical waters. Or maybe I’m just dreaming…

These feathery pieces of ice were dotting the frozen surface of a lake, and had lined themselves up on a tree root, too.

Ice-crusted branches on the willow tree on day two of my winter series.

I liked the reminder that the branches were once pliable enough to be knotted like this, but the knot itself seemed cruel.
