Getting some sun

082014

I did see things other than storm drains and driftwood on my visit to Victoria, although you’d not know it from reading this blog. Ehpem, an excellent guide, took me to a part of town where we got to see some architecture, an excellent old car, graffiti, and a group of folks (and some flowers) taking in the afternoon sun.

(By the way, this shot was taken only a half-block from where Ehpem captured this scene, which I completely missed because I was looking at a poster on a utility pole.)

Another shot at the pebble beach near Ehpem’s house.

It really did remind me of West Texas. Ha! Ha! Of course not! It was the opposite of West Texas.

Driftwood, again

My sincere thanks to Ehpem and his spouse for being such gracious hosts for my brief visit to Victoria. They were generous with their time and their hospitality.

They were also generous about showing me the things they love about their city. Like this scene, which is just a short walk from their house.

I hope to someday return the favor and show them around West Texas, which of course has less driftwood but more sky.

Like ships in the…day

Ehpem and his spouse (who also blogs) took me out to explore the Ogden Point breakwater, which has also been featured on Ehpem’s blog. (Here are some of Ehpem’s shots of the breakwater prior to the installation of railings.)

Driftwood. Breakwater. Canada is so exotic!

Anyway.

The lower levels of the breakwater provide an interesting angle from which to observe people walking above. And to see some of them moving with great determination in opposite directions.

Just down from my house are, well, some more houses.

Just down from Ehpem’s house is this. The night before I took this shot, the water had been rougher, the waves tossing the rocks enough to make a beautiful hollow, clacking sound. This morning, though, it was calm, with just the geese to keep me company.
