Very nice! I like the contrast against the black sky.

Thanks – it was a perfect day, with no clouds in the way!

Is that a heavy dose of red filter in the conversion (sorry not sure of the terminology since I dont use photoshop)?

I shot it with a polarizing filter. Then, when I transformed it to b&W in Photoshop, I used either a red or a yellow filter – I can’t remember which. Those days with perfect, dark blue skies are great for getting a dark sky in b&w.

Thanks – its good to know how to get these effects on purpose. I tend to stumble on them in post, without having thought about them when taking a picture.

Don’t get me wrong – I do my fair share of stumbling, too! I am a fan of your blog, and your photos, and I never saw anything you posted that made me think you stumbled at all. Keep up the good work!

Thanks! I am glad my groping in the dark is not too obvious, even though it is still quite prevalent.

Thanks! It was one of those perfect shots – clear sky, interesting buildings, no traffic. I love it when that happens!

Love the black sky here. The deserted town feel is very appropriate here. Nicely done.
