Golf: it’s untrustworthy
The first time I ever played miniature golf was at a birthday party for my friend Deborah. We were seven.
I had no idea what miniature golf involved; it wasn’t one of the activities on the approved list at my house. Birthday parties weren’t something we did either, and I was very shy back then, so Deborah’s invitation must surely have filled me with dread.
But I went. I swatted a red golf ball with a kid-sized putter. Had some cake, too, and maybe brought home a party favor.
When I got home, I told my dad that I’d won golf! I had, you see, gotten the highest score, and that surely meant I’d won. Right?
I haven’t trusted golf since.

I have a friend who says he likes to keep his cost per stroke as low as possible….

The sign in that photo might have gone better with a story about tennis, or other racquet sport.

The upright part of the sign, that is.

I don’t really have any racquet-sport stories that I can recall right now. Except for my famous move “The Melinda” from racquetball. And that’s all I will say about THAT.
Maybe that sign looks like a gigantic flyswatter?

It could indeed. Perhaps more appropriately? All those hot sweaty golfers attracting flies?

Ha! It would make a fine old mess. Kind of like one of those things for slicing hard boiled eggs.
Hard boiled goes pretty well too, all on its own, without eggs.

Thank you very much; this little essay sort of wrote itself while I was shooting.
