Some things that make me stop
An asphalt parking lot, being overtaken by weeds? A painted-over front door? A sign painted right on the concrete block wall? Ghostly evidence of previous signage? Wispy clouds? A goofy awning?
Yes, all of those things are connected. And all of them will make me stop and take a picture. Or a dozen.

This image is you, in a nutshell (or should that be fruit cup).

That comment made me laugh right out loud. Which wouldn’t be so bad, maybe, except that I was at work, at my desk, supposedly working….

I especially like the balance in this shot, and the way light shines through the grass.

Not sure how many people actually launder their coins these days… perhaps the owners were jailed for money laundering?

Remember how NOISY those places used to be, with all those coins rattling around in the washers and dryers? You could hardly hear the soap opera that was blaring from the TV in the corner.
At any rate, this place looks like it’s been silent for a while.

The last time I laundered my coins I used hot water and everything shrank. I started with $12.42 and ended up with $8.23. That’s why, in this household, I don’t ever do laundry.
This is a really nice photo (again). Infrared?

Yikes! That was a 33.7% reduction; the water must have been very hot. Although, perhaps, it was an acceptable level of loss to get out of having to do the laundry….
Thanks – I shot it in color and applied an IR filter in Photoshop. I liked what the filter did to the grass in front of the building.

I love the light in this, along with all the other great elements. Wonderful.
It looks like a dry laundromat!

Thanks, Karen.
I guess a “dry laundromat” is the same thing as a “dry cleaner”?

I guess so, different than a dry county though… : )

Somewhere in here we need to add in a discussion about dry wit, perhaps?

Now a coin laundry really gets me thinking. My wife is always complaining that I put loose coins in my pockets and in consequence my pockets STINK! Now if you launder coins maybe they smell nice after, like clothes do? That could be the way to save my marriage! On the other hand – people who launder money as in ‘money laundering’ make mega-bucks. Does someone seriously think they can launder coins and make mega-bucks. Or is this just graffiti. I’m thinking out loud here. Whatever…….your usual high standard, Melinda.

I know what you mean: the whole “money laundering” scheme just confuses me. I think I’m better off just sticking with my real job.
(I have a favor – I’d like some opinions other than my own on some photos for a competition I’m entering. Can you email me at melindagharvey@gmail.com if you’d be interesting in helping. Here’s a link to the competition: http://bit.ly/15LIdvL. Thanks!)

I have a different take on this. I think the sign painter, being an organised kind of guy or gal, arrived with only the letter templates he needed. But, a bad hangover contributed to mind cramp, and the letters got out of order.
S/he meant to paint: Irony Unclad. Or perhaps it was Lurid Canyon. Both of which can be observed in laundromats for people that don’t have any spare clothes.
I really don’t think s/he meant Coin Laundry, or Lady Unicorn.

I think there is a very slight chance you had a little too much time on your hands….but still, this is pretty entertaining.
(And, also, you took all the good anagrams for “coin laundry” except Lacy Dour Inn. It’s kind of unbelievable coincidence, but I have actually stayed at the Lacy Dour Inn! I didn’t like it very much; the innkeeper was too sullen for my liking.)

I’ll take that as praise for a job well done by your Research Department. Another job well done.

It sounds like the Research Department is hinting for a raise.

I’ll take it that you carelessly dropped the p from your last word. Though the p-word would be considered a raise, I suppose.

In addition, I think the Research Department may want his duties expanded to include copy editing.
