That one Saturday morning
Nazareth, Texas, is about 90 miles from Lubbock. There are a couple of ways to get there, but one of them involves driving on the interstate, so I almost never choose that route. Instead I go through Shallowater and Littlefield and Spade and Olton and Hart, traveling mostly on a narrow farm road. It’s a nice drive, and I especially like it on winter mornings when the low sunlight catches the spiky stalks left behind in the fields after the harvest.
This one Saturday, I was heading to Nazareth and keeping my eye on the interesting clouds. I could tell that I was going to pass under them at some point along the way, and so it was with a bit of luck that I was in Hart when I caught up with the clouds: it made for a more interesting photograph to have buildings in the shot.
Nazareth. Why Nazareth? Good things happen in Nazareth. You should go, if you get a chance.

Wonderful clouds, yet they do not overwhelm the farm buildings, just provide a great background texture. Not sure how you managed to create that dynamic. Usually the clouds would be brightest part of the image.

Thanks, John. The clouds really were sort of the steely gray color, which I can’t explain. Maybe it was the sun angle?

I love skies that make me feel like I’m shrinking.

This sky certainly made me feel insignificant!

Outstanding! Keep this in mind for future contests. I use a special keyword for the special photos (you know them when you see them). Then it’s easy to find them all in a Smart Collection, which can find photos based on keywords.

Thanks, Ken. I’ve always liked this photo, but only recently did my Photoshop skills progress to the point where I could fix the terrible converging lines that resulted from shooting it from such a low angle. And I will keep it in mind for future contests!

Wonderful light, and clouds, and buildings. Very nice indeed. Everything looks huge in this shot.

It’s Texas: everything IS huge! (This is another view, on a different day, of the same buildings: http://bit.ly/16ai3cW. I like them.)

Wonderful clouds that at first sight might seem very threatening but on second view I suspect are rather more benign. They contrast very well with the buildings. Well worth shooting, Melinda.

Thanks, Andy. And you are right – those clouds were not threatening. Just photogenic!
