Wayward cloud looks like a banner

I caught a chill when I wrote yesterday’s post, so let’s look at something I photographed on a day that was about 100 degrees warmer. Literally.

This is another view of the sign you can see in this shot. The most remarkable thing here, I think, is the way that one little wisp of a cloud looks like a banner fluttering from the sign.

But do you see what else? Yep – painted-and-faded plywood!

  1. I like that ‘cool’ sun with shades!

That structure looks like it was designed for a bigger sign. I wonder what was there first.

So, instead of wondering too long, I googled. It was a Phillips 66 sign. You can see it part way down this page: http://bit.ly/1fKsk02 (the image URL has snyder in the name, which is proof positive, right?).

    • Way to go, Research Department! I agree with your conclusion that this place used to be a Phillips 66 station. Historical note: my dad worked for Phillips Petroleum for several years. Among other things, he did the civil engineering for the Phillips stations along the Turner Turnpike in Oklahoma. So, clearly, there was something in my genetics that drew me to photograph this place.
