Haven’t seen Albuquerque?

011914

The website for this store, Skip Maisel’s, says it is housed in “one of the most interesting and unusual buildings in the Southwest,” which is a pretty grand statement. And, in my opinion, may not be particularly accurate. For example, I think this place is pretty interesting. And so it this. But maybe I am biased.

The website also says “if you don’t go to Skip’s, you haven’t seen Albuquerque.”

By that definition, then, I have not seen Albuquerque. But I have seen some alleys…..

  1. I’m going with Skip on this one, not that the others aren’t interesting. The keywords in the claim are “one of” (the most interesting). I would stop at this place if I were passing by.

  2. Sic transit gloria mundi…

Is it still open? if I went in there I’d be afraid to never be able to come out.
I lived in Albuquerque in the sixties. Maybe then it was in its glory … but I never saw it.
I had a husband that kept me on tight restrictions. Later I left with my children and threw wide open the doors of the world. But in Washington D.C. …Life can be strange, however it must never be a dead-end.

    • Vera – it is still open (or was the last time I was in Albuquerque, a year ago).

I lived in Albuquerque from 1978 to 1982, but never went to this store even though I worked only a couple of blocks away.

It makes me happy to read that you “threw wide open the doors of the world”! That sounds not only like a poem but like a excellent way to approach life.

  4. Sometimes it’s true that the bigger the hype, the bigger the disappointment. Whether that it true in this case – I have no way of knowing. And I would be more interested in knowing the quality of the store than the quality of its immediate environment. Anyway – nice photo as always, Melinda.

    • I used to work just around the corner from this store, but I never went inside: we lived in Albuquerque when my husband was in grad school and purchasing things from stores like this wasn’t quite in our budget. So, I can’t give you an opinion on the store. I can say that their website was irritating.

      Glad you like the photo!
