Lutheran, and a field
I spotted this nice little church in my wanderings last spring – that limestone tower was what first caught my attention.
Then I saw how the careful lawn was keeping that field at bay, which for someone who’s more theologically competent than I am might be significant.
And, as I always do when I stop at these country churches, I checked to door in hopes it was unlocked. There have only been a couple of times when I found an open door – this one in Megargel, Texas, and this place in Driftwood, Texas; this place was locked up.
But the disappointment of not being able to see inside was tempered by another look at how the Lutherans keep the lawn.

Always taken by your dramatic skies. I suppose it is in part the different atmosphere you have in the western regions as opposed to what we have in the east… lots of moisture in the air. Our clouds just do not seem as dramatic most of the time. But perhaps there is something else going on with your picture processing. I have experimented with IR photography and that does make more dramatic clouds, but I do not think that is your MO.

Thanks, John. I think these dramatic clouds are a combination of particular Texan atmospheric conditions and the Silver Efx Pro NIK plugin, which I use on nearly every photo.

I love the little sprinkling of flowers that have sprung up since the last mowing..

I think one of these days we’ll probably push open a door and see something we wish we hadn’t – but until then, I’ll give any door a try!

I love how the sky contrasts with the church so nicely. really like it.

Thanks. I’ve recently returned to this little town, and the sky was not at all cooperative; I realize how lucky I was on my first visit (which was when I took this shot).

What a beautiful pastoral scene that is, Melinda

This church says “Lutherans are solid folk”. Even the clouds look like a permanent fixture. The lawn looks better than mine.

I hate to give in to stereotypes, but I have the same impression of Lutherans. The second time I was by this place, though, the clouds were gone. But I expect they were just hovering over a DIFFERENT Lutheran church.

Thanks – there’d been storms earlier in the day so I was lucky to have the remnants of the clouds.
