Her name was Alene, known as Lena and she was Alene Hunt prior to marrying Mr. Clements.
Mr. Clements had no teeth and hated to wear dentures. Do you think she died while concocting one of those horrible 1950s sculpted jell-o and condensed soup ‘salads’? Or was it the 13 children that finished her in the end?
A descendent has written with (misplaced?) nostalgia about these people here: http://bit.ly/1UYuMpm

My Research Department has returned!!
I’ve had one or two things going on, so I didn’t even try to find out anything about Mrs. Clements, so thanks for your work on that.
I think she died from a previously-unknown banana allergy, after eating Ham and Bananas Hollandaise (recipe #2: http://bzfd.it/1f3HFOd)

Every last one of those recipes looks toxic enough to kill a grown adult.
I suspect you are subtle enough to have provided that link in the hopes of my finding the *other* banana recipe in that list and wetting my pants with laughter. Which very nearly happened.

Oh, my. That *other* banana recipe is so…inappropriate. I assume that you followed the link to the book “Be Bold With Bananas” but in case you didn’t, I’ll go ahead and tell you that the book costs $250! (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000AO8YY0/?tag=buzz0f-20). Quote from actual book review: It is a cookbook. A horrifying, horrifying cookbook.

Well, I hadn’t read that review, but I am so glad that I have now. And the icing on the cake is the list “What Other Items Do Customers Buy After Viewing This Item?” Not least of which is “The Stray Shopping Carts of Eastern North America: A Guide to Field Identification”

Indeed. It reminds me a bit of Rebecca and the poor unnamed second wife/narrator. What does that say about a person?

Rebecca! I hadn’t thought about that in ages.
I understand that married-name convention has changed since Mrs. Clements’s time, but I still just think it’s awful that her own name is just…gone.
