Thanks, John. Over on my One Day | One Image Facebook page, a knowledgeable gentleman named Benny posted the following:
Roaring Springs got its name from a natural spring southwest of town on the Pease River. it was a refreshing mecca for us back in the 50’s and 60’s until it was purchased for a private club and camp ground. The pool was cold, refreshing, and always crowded on weekends. The spring was a camping spot for generations of native amerians. You can still see holes in the sandstone ledges where indians ground their corn. Keep up the good work.

I’d take a roaring spring over a tidy church any day, so I don’t think it made up for it. But the photograph makes up for the tidy church in a very nice way.

I guess there DID used to be a roaring spring – maybe when it rains a lot it comes back… (See response to the first comment on here to see what I learned about Roaring Springs from someone on Facebook.)
