To Ascend
“Oh, you must go inside! It’s beautiful,” said the parishioner leaving after Mass.
She was right. Even the foyer was lovely, with the play of light on the surfaces and the hint of mystery about what was at the top of the stairs.
(And in case you wondered, the slope-shouldered gentleman there on the wall is St. Jean Baptiste Marie Vianney, the patron of parish priests.)

Thanks, John. I sort of had to stand right in the doorway of the men’s room to get the shot, but sometimes that’s just the sort of thing photographers do. I think.

I managed to give myself plantar fasciitis by contorting my feet for hours in a narrow gap around an ancient floor at an archaeological site that I wasn’t supposed to walk on. All in the name of getting as wide a view of the room as possible. Took months to walk properly again. And not a single one of my pictures was nearly as interesting as this one.

Could you file for worker’s compensation? Is that a thing in Canada? It is here, but seems to be usually restricted to mysterious, unprovable back “injuries.”
