“Nearly” is long enough

Those too-short curtains reminded me of my high school days, standing on the beige ottoman in the den while my mother pinned the hems in my dresses. It was the 1970s, so of course she never pinned them short enough to suit me. But I was resourceful, and predictably devious, and would always offer to sew the hems. At that point, it was just a matter of moving the pins up a inch* before I started sewing.

The sign on the door said “Open Tuesday.” It wasn’t clear if it referred to the upcoming Tuesday or a long-ago one.

I have my suspicions.

The well-lit arrow

As it turned out, Sunday morning was a great time to be making photos on SW 6th Avenue (the old Route 66): the stores didn’t open until noon (if they opened at all), so it was just me and the Patient Spouse, some interesting lighting, and a bird.
