Barriers and Beads

Things in New Orleans are often at cross-purposes. Like this foreboding razor wire atop a wall in the French Quarter, and the festive Mardi Gras beads that are caught in it.

Campaign for Restoration

Not only does this church in the French Quarter have regular Masses and other, ordinary churchy things, tourists stop in to check it out. It’s always busy, so I’m sure the ongoing maintenance costs are high. There’s been a church on this site since 1718, and this building’s been here since 1850.
Also, it’s said to be haunted. Père Antoine is said to appear during Christmas Midnight Mass. And Père Dagobert also haunts the place and can be heard chanting the Kyrie on rainy days.
I didn’t see any ghosts, and none have appeared in the images that I made, for whatever that’s worth

Candle Can’t Escape

Down a little street called Pirate Alley, and in the shadow of St. Louis Cathedral, there’s a certain candle being held captive on a wooden table. A silvery chain blocks its escape.
But, if it DID escape, where would it go?

PS – Tom Robbins’ book Skinny Legs and All was (apparently) in my mind when I wrote this.
Message is the Mystery
Don’t you wish you knew what was on that piece of paper tucked into the shutters? And don’t you wonder if there’s someone looking out through the curtains, watching to see if you’ll give in to temptation?
And, also, don’t you wonder why I made this in color?
So many mysteries.
