Mother Road
The famous Route 66 was one of the first highways in the national highway system; it covered some 2,440 miles from Chicago, Illinois, to Santa Monica, California. It lost its official designation in 1985, after it had been replaced in its entirety by the Interstate highway system.
But it still lives on in legend and myth. And, of course, in giant roadside billboards.
