College of Architecture
The college of architecture and urban planning at the University of Michigan is housed in this old building. And, at the end of the building are apartments; anyone who’s ever gone to architecture school will appreciate the genius behind THAT idea.
(Oldest architecture school joke in history: This building doesn’t even NEED light switches: the lights are always on because on one ever leaves.) (I never said architects were funny.)

Nice windows, lots of light getting in there. But it looks like it must get hot too, the number and size of air conditioners being one indicator. Nice painted line in just the right place!

It WAS accommodating of the parking-lot-stripe-painter to put that line just where I was going to need it to be, wasn’t it?

Yup. They do that sometimes, I was noticing in a recent parking lot I was shooting. Accommodating fellas, those stripe painters. I think I’d like to get to know a few of them.

I saw one of my former co-workers the other day, painting the parking lot stripes at the bus transfer station. He was using a tiny roller on a long handle; he looked like he was wishing he were someplace else. But maybe he was dreaming of the day he’d hit the stripe-painting Big Time and get to relocate to Victoria….

Painting stripes in the rain? He would be even less happy I think.

That’s a good point. Maybe he wasn’t even thinking of a future that involved painting stripes.

“You know I always wanted to pretend I was an architect” … George Costanza.
Actually, a rather interesting design, particularly in this age of high rises.

Oh, George and his dream of pretending to be an architect! I think if we worked on it, we could find a Seinfeld quote to support almost every post in both of our blogs!

It’s a beautiful building but it looks so tiny compared to those HUGE parking spots. You could put 6 MINI Coopers in each one! I’m also glad those wires are there to hold back the clouds.
On a side note: I had a Summer job one year painting lines in a road with a roller at the end of a long stick. WORST. JOB. EVER!!!

It is a bit disconcerting to compare the relative sizes of the parking spaces and the building! Six MINI Coopers or one F150 would fit easily. Or – as Ehpem pointed out over on your blog – one F150 on top of six MINIs would also fit.
Those wires did their job – just like the wires in your photo last week did theirs.
A summer job painting lines in a road sounds like an excellent motivation to finish college, if you ask me!
