Same town but a different toilet
Remember this photo of a toilet? This is another toilet, plus a random chair and a wadded up towel, from the same building.
The walls behind the, uh, seats are old – those narrow wood slats indicate that the original wall was plaster, which fell from use after drywall (or Sheetrock™) became the favored building material.
(If you want to know a LOT more about plaster walls, or any other building material, I can highly recommend The Walls Around Us, by David Owen. It’s witty and accurate, a winning combination if you ask me.)
(On another subject, I had a chat recently with the curator of the local photographic society’s exhibit. My Toilet.Seat. print was in the show, but didn’t win. The curator, whom I had just met for the first time, said, “Oh, your photo of the toilet was SO popular. Everyone loved it….well, everyone except the juror, I mean.” So, there you go: jurors don’t speak for everyone.)

There are a lot of straight lines in this photo and the shape of the toilet breaks it up nicely. Photographically speaking, it’s an interesting addition.

It was the shiny curves of the toilet that caught my eye – they really stood out against all the lines. I also noticed the ghosts of time on the floor.

You must have been in seventh heaven – a toilet and a chair in the same corner, both abandoned. Not to mention vanishing plaster. Who else has ever taken a photo of invisible plaster?
Word of caution – your Amazon link can cause WP to treat your post as spam and it might not show up in the Reader. I had this happen when one of my old posts with an Amazon link in it was listed in my recently view posts section. WP dug around when I complained and that old link is what turned out to be the cause. So, not only could it kill this post from the reader and all your viewers that subscribe that way, but as long as it is in the Top Posts and Pages section, could do the same to future posts. I suggest you change that link. Try abebooks dot com perhaps, or just upload a copy of the book cover image to your own photos in WP and link to that.

I just checked – your post is in my reader. But still, I think that link is risky…

Thanks for telling about the potential problems with links to Amazon – I’ve taken your suggestion and edited the page to link elsewhere.

I like the watery patterns in the floor in juxtaposition with the straight lathes. Strangely beautiful in a way…

Thanks, Karen. Finding this scene was a nice surprise. And a good illustration of why I always need to have a camera: the agency I work for leases space on the bottom floor of this building and I was there for work. I’d been tipped off about the upper floor ahead of time, and came prepared to explore after the actual work got done.

It’s an image that raises questions to which there are no answers. In two words: it works. As for Jurors – they never ever get it right, do they?

I am of two mind re. jurors. If I were to ever win a competition, then I would be first in line to say they got it right. Otherwise…..
