And there was a pink toilet
So, that old gas station I found in Seymour, Texas, isn’t completely monochromatic after all.
The restroom door was shut when I was exploring the place. And you probably would have laughed at the technique I used to open the door: I hit it, hard, with the heel of my hand, to pop the door open and scare away any critters who might be inside (although where I thought they’d go isn’t exactly clear to me.)
But that bit of unnecessary drama was worth it, when the door swung open to this amazing sight.

i hope you were just there to photograph a shut-down gas station & not need use of this horror! 🙂 ~amy

Someone had the good color sense to include the pink toilet seat in this restroom. Makes me think this is abandoned because the owner went on to bigger and better things.

I am almost positive that the previous owner of this place is now a writer at HGTV: http://bit.ly/Kfh9lM

Oooh! I love this one. Pink! A toilet – which is a kind of chair, yes?

Yes, it IS a kind of chair!
(Don’t tell anyone, but the post that’s scheduled for January 22 features: a chair!)

Definitely worth the work to get in.
What a find!

It probably didn’t need to be quite as much work as I made it….!

You are hilarious. There’s a chance that I may be in Texas for two weeks this summer, alone, and photographing and you and I need to go stir up some trouble 😉

Well, I generally crack myself up – so it’s always good to know that someone else agrees with my assessment of how funny I am! Keep me posted on your trip – I’d love to work something out.

I’m disappointed. I would have expected a real good shoulder shove or a raised foot – as in the movies, you understand. That pink is subtle, definitely not over-stated. And who left the lid up? I get sent to the Dog House for doing that at home! I reckon you could do an exclusive exhibition on the abandoned Texan facilities. An excellent one to add to the series, Melinda.

The next time I am breaking into a restroom, I’ll try to remember to use a more dramatic technique. Or at least SAY that’s what I did! The lid was up when I got there: I wasn’t too interested in touching anything….
I do seem to be amassing a body of work on abandoned facilities, don’t I? What’s with that, do you think?

I think I see the head of a snake peering throuh the crack under the seat. So it seems your technique worked, and there was somewhere to hide.
Very nice shade of pink. It is a lot like the colour my son chose for his bedroom walls at the age of 4. He is a musician now. Was then too.

My daughter-in-law refuses to go in the attic of their house, fearing attic snakes, which she firmly believes exist. If she’s right (and she usually is), there may well have been a snake in the toilet, since the building was roofless, and therefore attic-less…
Does a preference for pink walls indicate musical ability? Do we need to get a grant to study it?

There is no obvious correlation, so a good candidate for the grant. It might take a very large sample (= a very large grant) to prove the lack of correlation.

Generally, my employer doesn’t permit me to write grants for anyone else, but I think this is far enough removed from what I write for work that it will be OK. I’ll go ahead and budget full-time salaries for both of us, if that’s OK. Plus travel. And film, for the Pen.

Before you do, add a few zeros at the end – may as well ask for sufficient pay to make this Very Important Project worthwhile. Also, please let me know if the numbers are Canadian or US dollars….
