A worn windowsill

This building in downtown Lubbock has surely seen better days. It’s been a few things in the past – a hospital, a college – but most what it is now is vacant. I’ve shot it before (here and here) but this was the first time I followed my own advice and walked around back.

It was worth the trip, I think: most of the first-floor windows were broken, giving me views of cabinets with open doors, a random grocery cart, and a fabulous worn windowsill.

Always gotta check out the back! Well worth it to see those fonts 😉

    • It is almost embarrassing how many years I spent taking pictures before this simple little thing dawned on me…

I used to be a calligrapher, and an architectural drafter (before computers) so I always notice fonts – glad you noticed, too!

  2. Interesting to look at your other photos – I would have sworn they were back-side shots. An unprepossessing building in all respects, but excellent for your purposes.
It looks as if the lettering had been painted over which suggests perhaps that is a bit of a sign or something that was recycled as a windowsill. Great find!

    • When you come to Lubbock, I can hold your camera while you climb through the window to get a better look at that lettering. That’s what friends are for!

That poor building – EVERY side looks like the back….

      • Coming from anyone else, I would take the “every side looks like the back” comment as condemnation. Knowing your love of around the back views, this building must be 4 times better than the average.

Me and climbing through windows are pretty much ancient history. Even with someone else left holding the bag, I would not want to risk it!

      • Hey, I could start a blog called Four Times Better, and it could feature photos of buildings that are in disrepair on every side….

If I could provide a short ladder would you change your mind re. climbing in the window?
