The Way
Maybe you remember that I took a photography class from Keith Carter back in the summer?
In class he said, “Don’t take pictures of churches.”
In class he said, “Don’t take pictures of cemeteries.”
In class he said, “There are no rules.”
Maybe what he meant to say is that he doesn’t take pictures of churches. Or cemeteries. And that each of us must seek our own way, and photograph accordingly.

You’ve seen enough of my work to know that I don’t agree with his rules…
And that first step from the back door is a pretty big one. After that, though, it’s not so bad!

I’d use that back door if it meant getting out of church faster. Though I bet some nice pictures are waiting to be made inside this one.

I feel like I did miss the best part of this place, by shooting only the exterior. But there wasn’t a way to see/get inside. I tried.

I really don’t go into most of these abandoned places – especially in gun-prone areas like Colorado. Or Texas.
That house we went into in Jordan River was a rare exception.

That house is still there, I saw it last week, but looking more decrepit. And many more like it as BC Hydro has bought them ALL (ie: evicted them all) due to dangers of an earthquake induced dam collapse and flood down the Jordan River valley. Cheaper than fixing the dam I guess.

I just looked at it on Google street view – which was shot in 2012. The house we didn’t go into was in better condition, with chairs on the porch and a giant satellite dish, but “our” house was already vacant.
What I read into what you wrote is that there are MANY opportunities to photograph vacant buildings and that I need to start planning a trip.

Yes, until they demolish and or barge them out. The latter would not be until the spring, if they bother.

Well yes. The spare bed is still spare, no American refugees occupying it yet.

I’m thinking it is only a matter of time until American refugees start showing up. But just keep in mind which future refugee has first dibs…
