The Lubbock Series: 2 of 6

Along the path of a new freeway, a building begins to self-destruct. Later, the task was finished by heavy equipment, and now nothing is left but a vacant lot.

I shot this before I began my current photography-blogging career – which for those of you keeping score at home was on January 1, 2009 – but my eye was drawn, even then, to these poor old buildings. But don’t let me get away with being TOO self-congratulatory: I also shot this at the same place; I call it Gin and Cigs:

I can’t explain one thing in this shot, except maybe the sidewalk.

Left to right:
1. The Pink Panther? Apparently, the folks here are on a first name basis, and just call him Pink.
2. A light-colored brick building that looks much newer than the ones on either side. An attic full of bundled copies of Collector’s Weekly. An awning frame collapsed down with heavy wire mesh bolted to it to keep the bundles from landing on the sidewalk.
3. A pile of bricks in front of a long-boarded-up window. And a shiny aluminum door frame.
