That wall

052914

That wall.

It has a lot of things to like. The graffiti-control efforts that are just about intrusive as the graffiti was. The OUT left over from some kind of warning. The angle of demolition. The stripes from the poles and wires. I really liked that wall.

(See that black container? Those are the municipal garbage bins. They are round, and not very heavy. And also, the wind flings them all over the place. Just in case you wondered.)

Ridges: morning sun

If you like corrugated metal (Ehpem – this means you), you’d love this warehouse beside the train tracks. The shadows from the early sun added a lot of definition to that wall, which is surprisingly wavy and which makes me wonder what in the world is going on inside that place.

I also like the shadow from the arched roof, and the broken down trash bin.

It was a lovely place, and worth getting up for.

The apparatus

042714

This thing. I saw this thing in Dougherty. I just think of it as the apparatus. Maybe someone can tell me what it is, because I don’t have any idea. Something to do, maybe, with what ever goes on at a grain elevator?

If you want to check it out for yourself, it’s easy to find: it’s the only apparatus of this sort in town.

Lean-to

It’s not spelled the way it’s pronounced. The locals call it “Darty.” (We asked.) There’s not much there anymore, but it used to have a school (through grade 6, then kids were bused over to Floydada), a dancehall, a grocery store.

But now it’s got this skeletal building, slumped against the other one.

Trapezoid

I am drawn to compositions like this one, with a roof slicing through the rectangle of sky. Sometimes less really is more, I suppose.
