I am not certain if the ring of dead trees around this old house is protecting or threatening, although I am leaning toward the latter.

The old hospital has been abandoned; there’s a new one out on the highway.
In February 1973, my grandfather died in this place, the one with the broken glass, the opportunistic weeds, the memories.
