April 3

If I were one of those people with fond memories of going to the drive-in when I was kid, already dressed in pajamas and carrying a paper bag full of home-popped popcorn, I’d tell you all about it in this post.

But I am not one of those people. Sorry if you’re disappointed.

I kept going by this urn. I kept going by this urn and not taking its picture. After my third or fourth time by, I realized that it was just lovely and that it wanted me to photograph it.

I am glad I heard it.

April 1

I was in Clairmont, taking pictures, when an old man pulled away from the four-maibox post by the highway and stopped to ask me a question.

He said: You gonna put my town on the map?

I said: That depends. Do you want me to?

He said: Yes, ma’am, I do.

I said: I will do what I can.

So, here it is, the main sight in Clairmont, the 1895 jail.

From the late 1890s until 1954, Clairmont was the county seat of Kent County. Since 1954, though, it looks as though things have dropped off quite a bit. I don’t hold out much hope that this blog entry is going to put the old man’s town on the map, but I promised him I’d try.
